Annie and Esther‘s Story

Annie
In January of 2022, my sweet Annie girl was diagnosed with dry FIP. She was a kitten I rescued in October of the previous year, at just a few weeks old. Her eyes were so badly infected when she came to me that my vet and I knew she would never have any vision. In December, Annie had a double enucleation, (both eyes removed). We thought that would be the end of her struggles. Unfortunately, it was only the beginning. She began to run unexplained fevers, she wasn’t growing, and she wasn’t as playful as she was prior to surgery. Labs confirmed our suspicions, FIP.

I am the owner of a small, foster based kitten rescue in my area. Up until that moment, I had never considered treating a kitten for FIP. I didn’t know the treatment was so readily available, nor did I think I could ever afford it. Sadly, I said goodbye to several kittens with the disease in the years leading up to this moment. This time, I knew we weren’t going down without a fight. My vet connected me with the USA admin from Mutian. She thoroughly explained everything about the treatment, the process, the cost, the expectations and everything in between. We began treatment on Annie the next day. Within a week, I thought I was truly witnessing a miracle. Everything about Annie began to improve. Her appetite was back, no more fevers, her energy level was that of a normal 4 month old kitten and she was gaining weight. It was unlike anything I had ever witnessed.

A few weeks later, I had another kitten, that had already been adopted, become ill. The family contacted me because the vet wanted to euthanize her due to FIP. This was a kitten I had already saved from the brink of death from being hit by a car so I knew we weren’t giving up now. Esther, the kitten, was diagnosed with Ocular and Neurological FIP. The worst of the worst. Because I had Annie’s treatment medication on hand, I began Esther’s treatment that very day. It took a bit longer, maybe 2 weeks, but miraculously, Esther also began to show a vast improvement. Annie’s treatment was 84 days. Esther’s was 112 days. Thanks to the incredible generosity of my community, both girls treatment costs were completely covered and I never had to worry how I would pay for it.

Since that time, I have gone on to save 7 more kittens from FIP. Euthanasia is no longer an option for my rescue, or for anyone I know with a FIP kitten. I’m a huge advocate for treatment and refer everyone that reaches out to me to the admin at Mutian. Annie has been deemed cured for a year and a half and Esther for a full year. Both girls are 100% healthy and living their best lives, adopted by yours truly. I can’t imagine a world without them and I will always call them my miracle babies. Thank you, N and Mutian, for giving these two, and countless others, a second chance at life. They deserve it!!!!
