Micah's Story

Micah Micah Micah
Hi Everyone. Micah, a feral cat from one of the colonies I manage, is currently under treatment with Mutoral. Her stomatitis initially appeared in 2022. At that time the vet removed only some of her teeth and we returned her to the colony. In May of 2023 she showed symptoms again: she wasn’t grooming, losing weight and her tongue was out and was drooling. She eluded capture for a year (amazing she survived during that time) but was finally trapped again on April 25th of this year. At this point she weighed only 5.3 pounds. She then had a full mouth extraction but the stomatitis wasn’t resolved even after two rounds of Convenia and Depomedrol. She continued to have inflammation and ulcerations on her tongue and mouth. I was hesitant to start her on prednisolone, as the vet recommended, and was looking for another option. The director of our rescue learned about Mutoral and we started treatment in July. Because Micah is feral, and can not be handled without sedation, I was not able to look into her mouth to see if there was improvement. I could only assume she was getting better based on her breathing being less congested so after the intial two weeks of Mutoral 1 we continued on to Mutoral 2. Then Five weeks into her treatment her appetite waned and she stopped eating. The vet assumed it was pain from the stomatitis and initially just wanted to give her pain meds. I insisted on a sedated exam to check her mouth and to our amazement her mouth looked great. Everything was clear, the inflammation and ulcerations were gone. Bloodwork and urinalysis showed no issues and after 4-5 days she started eating again. Still not sure why she stopped eating but we are back on track with her treatment. She now weighs 8.4 pounds and I am hopeful her stomatitis will be fully cured. Thank you Nancy and Mutian! You’re a lifesaver.
