Fighter's Story

Fighter Fighter Fighter
He was diagnosed with dry FIP on November 1st, with ocular symptoms. He was blind in both eyes, with a severe infection in his right eye (upper respiratory infection related). He wouldn't eat and was severely dehydrated. I was force feeding him; he weighed a total of 3.7 pounds at 16 weeks. The vet gave him subcutaneous fluids and had prescribed him a series of antibiotics as well as an NSAID. I had no idea what to do and felt dispair and hopelessness in not being able to help him, especially after researching FIP. Then, I found this group and Nancy reached out to me. For the first time in three days, I cried tears of relief since there was hope for Fighter's little life. We started him on capsules; however, within a week we realized the capsules made him nauseous. So he was then switched to the subcutaneous injections. The first week or so Fighter didn't fight (no pun intended) and would lay still while receiving his injections. After 3 weeks, he felt stong enough to start fighting back and vocalize during his injections. I honestly consider that a win! He is still within the first 84 (or 112) days of treatment, however, the progress Fighter has made has been phenomenal! Which leads me to the second set of pictures, taken December 13! Fighter is now 6.1 pounds! He is eating on his own and drinking water! His left eye is partially sighted, while he is still completely blind in his right eye. He is playing, running, jumping, and grooming normally! Fighter has even been seeking me out for affection, whereas he wasn't before. To hear his little toys and pitter patter while playing and having the zoomies makes me smile and warms my heart. The vet is extremely impressed with the progress he has made, and quite frankly, I am too! While is still within the treatment time period, he has definitely lived up to his name and has been fighting to survive. He would not have made it this far without this group or Nancy being on his side and helping me through everything so far. Nancy has been such a huge help in answering all of my (sometimes stupid) questions! She is extremely knowledgeable and helpful! Nancy has truly been a beacon of hope for me and I can't be more grateful for her and this group! After he is completely done with his treatment and observation, I will hopefully be posting pictures of a very happy, healthy (hopefully fat lol) indoor kitten!
