Pebbles's Story

Pebbles Pebbles
Day 168 + 84 … + 1  YAY!! WE DID IT!!  My fluffy Warrior Pebbles seems to have beaten FIP!! LIVE LONG AND PROSPER WARRIOR PEBBLES! So this is how it feels when you started the battle you thought you could never win and you started it anyway just because you did not wanted to give up on your cat without a fight, but then in the end you realize that actually … you won the battle… Observation ended yesterday. Today is Day 1 of the rest of her life. After 168 days of treatment and 84 observation days I can finally breath again. On 10 Feb 2020 Pebbles was diagnosed with dry neuro FIP after a CT-scan of her head (because of ataxia) and just seconds away from being put down. I considered going along with the advice of the specialist vet to immediately euthanize Pebbles for one very tiny brief millisecond-moment. Then I decided not to listen to that vet, because although at that moment I didn’t know why, somewhere in the back of my mind I knew she had a chance. So I decided to listen to that little voice inside and not to the vet, and I took my FIP-kitty home. Alive. On the way back home I remembered that a few years ago I read about the promising results in research on FIP treatment. I surfed internet almost 24/7 the next couple of days and found some facebook groups, also this one, and a lot of information and encouraging support. On 14 Feb, the day of Love, I decided to give my cat a chance on life. On 15 Feb, late in the evening, I drove my car through raging storm Dennis to pick up the medicine and a few hours later I gave Pebbles her first dose. Team Pebbles had started to kick FIP’s butt! Pebbles did 168 days of treatment. Non-stop. No relapses. She just needed more time to get rid of minor neuro-symptoms. Also we kept having blood work results with good A/G-ratio’s but with high gamma globuline levels. Those were probably caused by others issues than FIP, but I wanted to be as sure as possible before stopping treatment. On 31 July 2020 we finally got the green light from one of the Warrior vets: Pebbles “would be ready to stop her medication and go into the observation period”. YAY!!! and ... OMG!!! On the 1st of August I stopped pilling her and 84 nerve wrecking observation-days later… No relapses... Pebbles is still here, alive and kicking. Back to a healthy weight again and she turned into the naughty, way too adventurous but very happy young cat that she was meant to be by birth. I still can’t believe we came this far. That we actually did it. I will probably stay Observing her instead of just Watching her for a long time. Maybe forever. But I finally dare to think of a future with her in it again. I could never have done this alone and I would like to send out many (many many many many) thanks to all the people in several FIP-support groups that helped, supported and inspired me. I’m thanking Mutian and the Mutian support team, Pebbles was mainly treated with Mutian. Of course many thanks to Dr Pedersen and his team; these guys & girls deserve a medal!  I thank all the fellow FIP-fighting pawrents in this group, who so often supported and inspired me. My thoughts also go out to the brave FIP-kitties that did not make it. I hope their death was not without meaning and that losing them learned us how to fight FIP better and save other kitties. If you currently have a FIP-kitty on treatment: Keep fighting! Team Pebbles is rooting for you !  -- Pebbles was diagnosed with dry neuro FIP. Weight at start treatment: 1.6 kg. On day 84 of observation: 3.9 kg. She was treated with Mutian capsules (149 days), Pine injections (3 days) and Aura tablets (16 days)
