13's Story

Trigger warning! Some of these pics are a little graphic! Long post ahead: Hi! I am going to be telling the story of my babies fip journey! I got 13(black sphynx) towards the end of October last year along with his sister Jinx. 13 was always so much tinier than his sister and never aged but I thought maybe that's just his personality and he's just a chill dude. Around April I noticed 13 getting skinnier even though he ate ALL the time and stole food whenever he could. April 15th my 13s belly was so swollen I knew something wasn't right. My friend is a vet tech so she came over and checked him out and said that he might have wet fip. She said if she puts a syringe in his belly and pulls fluid then he definitely does. So she did and my worst fear came true when I saw that syringe fill with fluid. I researched on the internet trying to figure out what to do and I came across a tik tok of a animal rescue who used a different Facebook group to get meds so I found that group and they had me start 13 on injections. The injections where horrible! The group told me I should see improvement within a week. I never did in fact 13 got worse! He started getting fluid built up in his legs, and bumps all around his body. The fluid in his legs would cause sores to show up and burst. He also had a mark on his back from his first injection that would not heal! April 26th 13 couldn't walk his legs where so swollen and he was in so much pain. I messaged the group and tried to find out what was going on only to be ignored. I went to a emergency vet that night thinking I was going to have to say goodbye to the sweetest most amazing little kitten who wasn't even a year old yet. We found out his liver was failing and the sores where infected and wouldn't heal because of the fip his body couldn't fight the infections. I posted one last post in a sphynx Facebook group looking for answers or a miracle idk what I was hoping the post would do but I just felt like I had to make it. Then I got a message from Lisa Ann Root telling me about mutation and how they saved her babies! Turns out she also lives near me so she was able to bring me some doses right away! 13 was on pain meds and antibiotics and mutation and within a week the fluid started to go away and the sores started to heal! I found out that the injections literally burned my baby from the inside out and they where killing him faster than the fip was. I am forever thankful for Lisa for introducing me to Nancy who has been extremely helpful and caring and just plain amazing! My baby was able to celebrate his 1st birthday July 11th and on July 17th he finished his treatment!! He is a brand new cat, he plays, he gets into trouble, he's still the sweetest most loving boy, you would never know by looking at him that he was on deaths door just a few short months ago!
